LAX Theme Building- Encounter Restaurant
The architectural design of the Theme Building was a joint venture of William Pereira & Charles Luckman, Paul R. Williams, and Welton Becket. James Langenheim worked on the initial building design while at Pereira & Luckman. Landscape design by Robert Herrick Carter. General contractor was Robert E. McKee. The original construction was completed in 1961.
In 1992, the Los Angeles City Council designated the Theme Building a City Cultural and Historical Monument.
A renovation involving a new engineering design for the arch system, shoring the building's foundation, seismically upgrading various building elements, and providing required Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades was completed in 2010.
